WP32 Objectives
- To explore the policy trajectories in member states in relation to work-family balance over the past decade.
- To assess the implications of these policy trajectories for the gendered nature of social citizenship.
- To assess changes in responsibility for provision and the respective roles of the state, employers and the voluntary sector.
WP32 Description of work
Preparing an international workshop of 15-20 participants who will discuss 8 papers over a two day period. A background paper for participants. Papers will be produced by participants on the trajectory of work-family balance policies in different member states over the past decade. Participants from Southern, Eastern, Northern and Western Europe will be invited. Paper-givers will be asked to address the following: (i) the goals of work-family balance policies, with special attention to gender equality; (ii) the policy trajectories in relation to childcare, leave policies and working time; (iii) the nature of role of the state, employers and the voluntary sector in relation to provision.
This work package complements three others under the ‘Gender, Citizenship and civil Society’ theme: WP 36U provides a more theoretical context, while WP 24C explores the behavioural consequences of different types of work-family arrangements at the household level.
