On the 28th of April the centre for International Studies in Citizenship, Participation and Civil Society will organise a seminar on how to define citizenship
The aim of the seminar is, trough more systematic discussion, to clarify the similarities and differences in how we in CIPACI approach the three main concepts of 'citizenship', '(democratic) participation' and 'civil society' as well as their interrelations. That is, to create a common understanding of our different approaches.
In order to get as many angles of the concepts as possible, we have asked four different presenters to present their understandings of the concepts. To focus the discussion we have chosen to create two questions that the presenters should reflect upon to the extent that the questions are relevant for their research. The questions are: 1) How do you understand 'civil society', and who participates in it, how and why? 2) Are citizenship something you are given as a right or something you can claim through participation? The questions are not meant to be exclusionary but to start and focus the discussion.
Each presenter will be given 30 minutes for presenting + 30 minutes for discussion.
