This section of the Newsletter contains two contributions: The essay ‘The Social Quality in Europe’ by Claire Wallace and Pamela Abbott, both University of Aberdeen (Scotland, UK), and the article ‘How to handle EU’s democratic deficit: Two different perspectives’ by Annette Zimmer, Westfälische Wilhelms-University, Münster (Germany).

The Wallace-Abbott essay is written in relation to CINEFOGO’s Second Final Conference, held in Brussels 16. – 17. June 2009. The first conference day addressed the theme of WORKCARE, including discussion of the ‘Social Quality’ concept, that is developed in this essay.

The article by Annette Zimmer contains comments to two pieces presented in the Dialogue and Debate section of CINEFOGO Newsletter Issue #6 (December 2008): An essay by Vladimir Spidla (Democratic Legitimacy of the European Union), and an article by Karel Müller (European Demos and Democratic Deficit in the EU).
